On July 4, 2017, Camila posted via Twitter a picture which showed a "She Loves Control" sign.[1]
On December 5, 2017, a video where Camila was interviewed by Falen from the Dave Ryan in the Morning Show on the backstage at KDWB Jingle Ball 2017 was posted. In a series of questions, Falen asked Camila, "What is your favorite song on the album you're most excited to perform for people?" to which Camila responded "I'm excited to perform this at once, it's called 'She Loves Control' and I'm excited to perform it just because it's very fun. I wouldn't say it's my favorite one on the album because they're all my favorites for different reasons, just excited to perform that one because I feel like it's gonna have cool like dance stuff".[2]
On December 21, 2017, Camila revealed the official tracklist of her debut studio album, Camila, which the song is featured as the third track.[3] On January 3, 2018, she introduced the song in a tweet by presenting a snippet accompanied by a gif where some lyrics were shown.[4]

Critical reception
The newspaper The Sun wrote about the song: "A sultry summer number flecked with Spanish guitar and a thumping bassline. Camila unapologetically opens with the lines: 'Cold, ‘cause she has been here before, she doesn’t cry anymore, no looking back.'"[5]
